The message that was clear so long ago is clear today. We are to spread the gospel to all the nations. Missions is everywhere and Wrightsdale provides missions support through a number of channels.
First, we participate in supporting the Cooperative Program , Southern Baptist's way of supporting over 5200 full-time missionaries taking the gospel to over 1,170 people groups, and 5000 more serving in the United States in various capacities. Those funds also support six seminaries and the other agencies of the Southern Baptist Convention . We do this through our giving to the Baptist Convention of Pennsylvania/South Jersey . We voluntarily affiliate with these entities believing we can do more together than we could ever do by ourselves.
Special Offerings
In addition to this we observe three special offering emphases for missions. They are the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions (named after a missionary to China), the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions and the Ed and Mary Price State Missions Offering for the Baptist Convention of Pennsylvania/South Jersey.
Local Missions
We support three wonderful local ministries. We gladly support the work of the Solanco Food Bank with donations as well as volunteers throughout the year. Solid Rock Youth Center is an outreach to children, youth, and their fmailies in Quarryville. We also support the work of Water Street Rescue Mission, which reaches out to the Lancaster community.
Individuals
We support a missionary family, Steve and Celeste Brubaker, working in Germany. We publish their quarterly newsletter for them as well as supporting them through prayer and donations.
Volunteer Missions
We have a Mission Trip Scholarship Fund approved by the church to help support those who go out from our congregation on short-term mission projects.
West Africa People Group – The Sankaran of Guinea
We recently voted to covenant with one another and with the Lord to adopt the Sankaran people of Guinea, West Africa as our spiritual responsibility to the end that we might be agents in the preaching of the Gospel and the formation of the Church of our Lord Jesus Christ among this people. The approximately 100,000 Sankaran live in central Guinea, West Africa and there are no known Christ-followers among them. As a subgroup of the larger Maninka (1.3 million), they are strategic in expanding global missions among muslim people groups. They are known as the storytellers and musicians of the Maninka. Our ministry will include prayer, acting as a hub for other churches, the sending of short-term missionaries, and working with missionaries already in place through chronological bible-storying.
Mission Groups
We learn about missions at a very young age at Wrightsdale. Our preschoolers meet from 6:30 – 7:30 on Wednesday evenings – they are called Mission Friends. Boys and girls in grades 1-6 meet at the same time: GA's (Girls in Action) and RA's (Royal Ambassadors). Acteens (teenage girls in grades 7-12) and Missions Possible (teenage boys in grades 7-12) also meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:30.
Mission Friends, GA's, and Acteens are extensions of the Woman's Missionary Union. RA's and Missions Possible are extensions of our men's missions organization known as The Brotherhood. Wrightsdale has divided the Baptist Women into three groups that continue the study of missions during their meetings once a month.
